After promises to ‘break gender stereotypes’ in LEGO Friends in 2023, a set with only male mini-dolls has been officially revealed for the first time.
When LEGO Friends first launched over 10 years ago, its packaging and selection of mini-dolls eventually raised concerns regarding potential gender bias in the theme and the LEGO Group responded with a promise to include more male mini-dolls in the future. While the variety changed to include more male mini-dolls, it wasn't quite as huge a step as the theme is taking in 2023.
When the theme relaunches with an all-new cast of characters in 2023, the first set to only include male mini-dolls will release on January 1.
After 10 years of LEGO Friends, such a set is notable as it suggests that the LEGO Friends design team aren't afraid to innovate with core aspects of the theme with the relaunch and it will be interesting to see what else changes in the future.
