LEGO Fortnite fans recreate 77078 Mecha Team Leader in game

A massive digital version of 77078 Mecha Team Leader has been assembled in LEGO Fortnite by a group of four talented fan designers.

The largest LEGO Fortnite set to date dropped this summer in the towering shape of 77078 Mecha Team Leader. Standing over 45cm tall, the 2,503-piece build was part of a line-up of new releases based on the video game that also included 77075 Peely & Sparkplug’s Camp, 77076 Durrr Burger Restaurant and 77077 Klombo.

Now, a quartet of enterprising LEGO Fortnite fans have taken 77078 Mecha Team Leader to the next level by recreating the massive machine in the game itself. The impressive digital model is the result of a collaboration between Haskyns, The Long Tom Lounge, Siria and Rooster-81, some of the most well-known builders in the game.

The 77078 Mecha Team Leader model was the result of weeks spent prototyping concepts to see what would work and trying to assemble a build that could actually walk. After a number of attempts to recreate the set in exact detail, the fans instead had to tear down their 1:1 models and instead construct their own take on the LEGO Fortnite set, as seen in the video above.

The result is a colossal structure that towers over the LEGO Fortnite island and one the features some degree of poseability. However, when it came to actually making 77078 Mecha Team Leader move, the fan designers were in for a shock.

Unfortunately, the game was unable to handle a dynamic object of such size and complexity, resulting in 77078 Mecha Team Leader’s left leg becoming completely detached, which required some hasty reassembly.
