F1 Academy driver Alba Hurup Larsen has shown off another Formula 1 helmet set – but it looks like this one may just be the work of AI…
Both of Scuderia Ferrari’s Formula 1 drivers are getting LEGO helmet sets in May with 43014 Scuderia Ferrari HP Charles Leclerc Helmet and 43022 Scuderia Ferrari HP Lewis Hamilton Helmet, and the team’s Formula 1 Academy driver Alba Hurup Larsen is getting in on the action too over on Instagram. The racer published an image of what at first blush looks to be a third set in the range, despite not being officially announced by the LEGO Group.
Take a closer look at the post, though, and alarm bells should be ringing. The image has exactly the same backdrop as 43022 Scuderia Ferrari HP Lewis Hamilton Helmet’s lifestyle photos, and when viewed on mobile (although curiously not on desktop) the post shows an ‘AI info’ label below Larsen’s account name. Tap it and you’ll be greeted with a warning: “Content in this post may have been created with AI.”
AI-generated LEGO sets are a dime a dozen across social media, but there are typically plenty of telltale signs to clue you in: box art with text that crumbles when you zoom in, LEGO pieces and colours that don’t exist in reality and so on. None of that is present in the image on Larsen’s Instagram account, which looks like a pretty convincing rendition of her light blue F1 Academy helmet.
The most obvious explanation here is that Larsen (or someone on her team) has fed an image of 43022 Scuderia Ferrari HP Lewis Hamilton Helmet into an AI tool and asked it to recolour the pieces and change the stickers. Even in that scenario, though, this would still be an almost frighteningly impressive AI-generated LEGO model. When the line between reality and AI starts to blur to this extent, we’re in trouble.
That’s all assuming this isn’t actually a real LEGO set that just happens to have been photographed under identical conditions to 43022 Scuderia Ferrari HP Lewis Hamilton Helmet, and the AI info tag is referring to… well, who knows what. But it would be surprising to see the LEGO F1 helmet collection turn instantly to F1 Academy drivers ahead of more recognisable icons, and for such a set to be unveiled in these circumstances. Plus, there's no minifigure in this one...
