The newly-announced LEGO Dreamzzz theme aims to help children through difficult times, according to Design Director Cerim Manovi.
With a range of new sets and an accompanying TV show, LEGO Dreamzzz encourages young builders to engage their creativity, with the ability to adapt their build to their own preferences. Learning lessons from past themes, it also seeks to help teach children how to manage difficult periods and 'nightmares' in their real lives.
In an interview with the Daily Express, LEGO Design Director for the theme, Cerim Manovi, says he hopes that the new theme will give children the tools to deal with 'bad things in our lives'.
"I feel we were doing it in a very healthy and safe way," Cerim told the Daily Express. "We are [going to] encounter bad things in our lives and there's no reason not to talk about it. So let's talk about it in this weird, metaphorical way that hopefully helps to equip them for when they have to deal with it at some point."
Cerim also explained how he wanted the series to 'inspire conversation' between the children who watch the series and their parents.
"Cerim explained: “But what we always want to do is create something that has quality, both in storytelling and execution."
“It's something where you learn to deal with your dreams and nightmares," he continued. “Because having seen these characters deal successfully with their nightmares, in this fantasy setting, might actually equip [kids] to be like, ‘Okay, now I'm less afraid of it. Maybe I can face it head on’.”
The first 10 episodes of the LEGO DREAMZzz TV show will debut on YouTube on May 15, while the first wave of 11 sets will follow in August. Check out all the details for the full wave here.
