LEGO Donkey Kong tease is perfectly timed for summer 2026

Today’s LEGO Donkey Kong-related announcement makes perfect sense, especially considering an upcoming video game anniversary.

The LEGO Group has teased a first look at something Donkey Kong-related ‘rolling soon’ and hinted that ‘there’s plenty more where that came from.' While a number of LEGO Super Mario sets featuring the character popped up in 2023, followed by 72033 Donkey Kong & DK Jumbo being released last year, the announcement of an upcoming video game-based build of some sort may well have been perfectly timed.

Rumours from earlier this year have suggested that 72051 Donkey King Arcade Machine might potentially be making an appearance later this summer. The LEGO Super Mario model is said to include 1,367 pieces for $169.99 / €169.99 and may launch in August 2026, possibly taking its cue from the likes of 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade.

Adding more fuel to the fire is the fact that the original Donkey Kong video game will be celebrating its 45th anniversary on July 9, 2026, a month before the rumoured 72051 Donkey King Arcade Machine might be making an appearance.

What’s more, the classic Donkey Kong video game features the exact same pixelated barrel design as seen in the recent LEGO social media post, with the suggestion being that ‘there’s plenty more’ possibly hinting at the multitude of those same barrels the angry simian hurls at Mario (or Jumpman, as he was originally known as) that players had to try and jump over.

All of the above does remain pure speculation on our part for now though, but we suspect there are likely to be more LEGO Donkey Kong updates in the weeks to come.
