LEGO Disney needs its own Diagon Alley, no matter the size

A LEGO Disney Main Street U.S.A. set is rumoured for the summer, and it's about time Disney receives its own Diagon Alley, whether big or small.

One of the most recent LEGO rumours is for a Main Street U.S.A. model said to be launching this summer. It wouldn't be the first LEGO Disney theme park set, and it's currently only a rumour. What's not rumoured just yet is any kind of piece count.

A collection of buildings, such as Main Street U.S.A., would fit a series of larger builds. A recent street set based on a fictional location is the retired 75978 Diagon Alley, which comes with facades of the street's most iconic buildings and full interior spaces. That model cost £389.99/ $449.99 / €449.99 when it was available.

As far as the concept goes, it's a great foundation for a LEGO Main Street U.S.A. set, but Diagon Alley recently appeared in a much smaller form. 76444 Diagon Alley Wizarding Shops takes the fictional street and scales it down for a comparatively affordable build. There are still interior spaces, though not quite as detailed due to the difference in size.

Either direction would work for a LEGO Main Street U.S.A. set. There would be ample space for Easter eggs, hidden details and iconic architectural features at both scales. The online LEGO community seems to have a preference for one scale over the other, though. There are countless custom creations based on Main Street U.S.A. as it appears across the Disney theme parks. These are typically scaled to minifigures, rather than being of a smaller scale.

As the rumour of a LEGO Main Street U.S.A. set swirls, the possible directions to take such a set are vast. Using Diagon Alley once more, the street has also received a series of smaller minifigure-scale models intended for play. That scale would also be suitable for Main Street U.S.A. over that of 75978 Diagon Alley. Until a piece count is rumoured, it's impossible to tell what path the LEGO Group may follow, if not something new.

You can catch up on the original rumour by clicking here. While 75978 Diagon Alley is now retired, 76444 Diagon Alley Wizarding Shops is still available for £169.99 / $199.99 / €199.99.
