LEGO Disney Main Street isn’t making magic for many fans

Reactions to 43303 Main Street, U.S.A. have been less-than magical, with the wider fan community bemoaning the LEGO Disney set’s cost and lack of buildings.

Disneyland celebrates its 70th birthday this year and the LEGO Group will be marking that special occasion with 43303 Main Street, U.S.A., a 3,899-piece set that comes with 16 minifigures. While the model attempts to recreate the fun and magic of the iconic American theme park, the wider LEGO fan community isn’t happy with the model at all.

“I’m the target audience for this,” said OliverNodel on Reddit. “I have an embarrassing wealth of knowledge about Disneyland history and love the design philosophies that Disney pioneered in theme park design. I was excited when this was leaked, but then the photos came out and… why is this the same price as the Lion Knight’s Castle? This looks like a $250 set at most. Disney tax be damned, but this is so underwhelming and I will be skipping it.”

“Absolutely insane that nobody in the design process realised how fundamentally flawed having only three buildings would be,” added Redditor Sniggih-2908. “If you’re making a Main Street USA set, I expect to be able to make a street. You can’t make a street with two buildings on one side and only one on the other. Where’s the fourth building? What the hell were they thinking?”

Not everyone has been quite as scathing in their reaction to 43303 Main Street, U.S.A., but there does seem to be an overall feeling from the fan community that the recently-revealed LEGO Disney set just doesn’t cut it when it comes to price, piece count and content.

“I know people have made their own Main Streets for years now using modulars,” added Redditor LadPrime, “but this really feels like a starter pack for someone to make an 'official' full-blown Disney Main Street... a $400 starter pack. There's definitely some tempting stuff here but the value just doesn't feel anywhere close to $400, sadly.”

“I'd get the firehouse, truck, and [Dapper Dans] if they were a reasonably-priced standalone set,” replied RLT79, “but the Emporium part looks bad – especially next to the train station set. I think I'm going to wait for the instructions to come out and build the parts I want from BrickLink.”

“I seem to be in the minority of people who like this set,” noted Mediocre-soup9445. “The new moulds are cool (especially the hats used for the Dapper Dans) and I like all of the details in the stores, but that price point is ridiculous. I wouldn't pay more than $250 USD for this.”

LEGO Disney 43303 Main Street, U.S.A. will be released on June 1 for Insiders members and then receive wider availability from June 4. The upcoming set is priced at £319.99 in the UK, $399.99 in the US and €349.99 in Europe.
