New LEGO Disney gift-with-purchase is ripe for expansion

The recent LEGO Disney gift-with-purchase is ripe for custom expansions requiring few parts, and one fan has started the inevitable trend.

LEGO Disney 40774 Classic Animation Scenes has yet to be available on the official online store, appearing early at Disney Store in the US and UK in the meantime Now that fans have been able to get hands-on with the build physically and digitally via the instructions, it hasn't taken long for someone to make a custom insert for the TV model, based on the measurements of the existing The Lion King, Toy Story and Disney castle logo models.

Shellhead3825 on Rebrickable has taken it upon themselves to expand on the offerings in 40774 Classic Animation Scenes with a small diorama for the Peter Pan minifigure. It's the start of the inevitable trend of custom expansions for the gift-with-purchase, and it's especially inevitable when you consider that their build uses only 82 elements.

This reveals just how easy and affordable building on the existing contents of 40774 Classic Animation Scenes will be. The hardest part will be sourcing custom stickers for the nameplate at the bottom of each insert.

With custom creations for the gift-with-purchase now underway, here are a few more minifigures that can inspire their own small movie diorama scenes.

Dopey in the mine

43242 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' Cottage has many exclusive minifigures, and any of the seven dwarfs would fit into a small recreation of the mine with gems lining the back wall. Dopey is our pick for his cute design, but there's no bad option for this build.

Bruno's room

Bruno from 21352 Magic of Disney is our only Encanto minifigure so far, and the build in the set isn't directly related to the character. He might be more at home in a recreation of his room, complete with several LEGO rats. The cramped space with his armchair would be suitable for the 40774 Classic Animation Scenes inserts, emphasising the tightness of the space.

Gaston and LeFou in the tavern

Both Gaston and LeFou appear in 43263 Beauty and the Beast Castle, a set which has already experimented with removable diorama scenes. Their minifigures can be taken out of the context of the castle and used as part of an insert for 40774 Classic Animation Scenes, recreating the tavern, which Gaston sufficiently decorated with Antlers. If two minifigures are too cramped for the small scene space, just Gaston would be enough to sell the scene.
