We know the new LEGO Jurassic Park dinosaur skeleton is much smaller than its predecessor, but this comparison reveals the full extent of their differences in scale.
77985 Dinosaur Fossils: Triceratops stomps on to shelves on June 1 for only £89.99 / $109.99 / €99.99, or less than half the price of 2025’s excellent 76968 Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex. It’s also got far fewer pieces in the box (1,154 compared to 3,145), and the result is a more affordable way to turn a corner of your house into a museum. But it also means these sets are not at all to scale with one another.
That’s demonstrated nowhere better than in SwiftBricks’ side-by-side comparison, which places both brick-built dino skeletons next to one another and in so doing really drives home their dramatic difference in scale.

The Triceratops is 59% cheaper than the T. rex in the UK and contains 63% fewer pieces, so by those metrics is pretty comparable from a value perspective. But looking at these sets together, you wouldn’t necessarily say the new model is 40% the size of its predecessor.
An adult Triceratops is believed to have been about eight to nine metres long, while a fully-grown T. rex typically reached roughly 12 to 13 metres in length. A quick glance at these two LEGO Jurassic Park models side by side suggests you’d probably need to buy at least three copies of 77985 Dinosaur Fossils: Triceratops to build something reasonably in scale with the T. rex.
The difference between these two sets as they come in the box isn’t just the size, though: it’s also in the detail, which as SwiftBricks points out is most keenly felt in the legs and feet.
Even with all that in mind, there’s something to be said for this LEGO Jurassic Park set coming in at a cheaper and more accessible price point (and also not taking up that entire corner of your house) – especially in an era when 18+ LEGO sets frequently push past the £200 or £300 barrier, and when this summer’s other LEGO Jurassic Park 18+ set comes in at £179.99.

That set is 77984 Jurassic Park Jeep Wrangler, which is available now at LEGO.com. 77985 Dinosaur Fossils: Triceratops launches June 1. Check out our hands-on video review of the upcoming model here.
