LEGO cuts total number of BrickLink Tortuga sets left to pre-order

The LEGO Group has cut down the total number of Thieves of Tortuga sets left to pre-order in Series 5 of the BrickLink Designer Program.

Having already reassured fans that more than the usual 30,000 copies of these fan-designed sets would be available if required, the LEGO Group bumped up the total available number of Krackenator’s The Thieves of Tortuga to 40,000 just hours after crowdfunding began. It now seems that may have been too ambitious a target, as the maximum number has shifted back to 37,000.

That’s according to the website code over on BrickLink, which reveals the figures behind the vague progress bars on the Series 5 page. The ‘funded’ bar for The Thieves of Tortuga – which was hit when at least 3,000 copies were pre-ordered – was previously set at 7.5% of the overall total, which means 40,000 copies were available in total. It’s now at 8.108108%.

Some quick maths tells us that if 8.108108% equals 3,000, then 100% equals 37,000. If you’re still deliberating over whether to order The Thieves of Tortuga, there are now 3,000 fewer copies to go round, so best act quick – though given this isn’t the first time the LEGO Group and BrickLink have moved the goalposts, there’s little to say it couldn’t go back up to 40,000 if the remaining copies sell out.

At the time of writing, 89.627027% of the 37,000 copies have sold, or 33,162 sets. That leaves 3,838 available to pre-order. But there’s another deadline for The Thieves of Tortuga and all Series 5 sets looming too: crowdfunding for this round closes on Tuesday, June 24 at 12pm PT / 8pm BST.

Orders of BrickLink Designer Program Series 5 sets placed between now and June 23 will qualify for double Insiders points (as verified by the LEGO Group’s customer services), though you may need to contact support to get the bonus points added manually once sets ship later this year. These sets don’t count towards the current gift-with-purchase 40766 Tribute to Jane Austen’s Books, however.
