The LEGO Group has reportedly started to look for a new office in London, suggesting a bigger presence in the UK could be on the cards.
A new London headquarters of the LEGO Group could be in the future of the company, as it reportedly hired property agent JLL to search for office space between 150,000 and 200,000 square feet in London, reports property news site EG. This would make it at least triple the size of the 54,000-square-foot campus in Billund that opened for the LEGO Group's 90th anniversary back in 2022.
It's worth noting that this process is still in its infancy stages. Companies the size of the LEGO Group regularly appraise their offices and make potential plans for the future, without them coming to fruition.
“We routinely review all aspects of our business to make sure we’re best placed to continue to reach more children with LEGO play," a LEGO Group spokesperson told the Evening Standard. "We have no news to share right now.”
If the news does translate into a huge new office in London, however, it marks a major shift away from the LEGO Group's birthplace in Denmark. Surely, the campus would stay running in Billund, pulling in tourists who wish to see the birthplace of LEGO. However, having such a huge office in London would mean a huge number of people working in London, with the Billund campus already providing workspaces for 2,000 employees.
The LEGO Group already has a strong presence in London, with the biggest official LEGO Store in the world in Leicester Square and the fourth store in the city opening in Battersea Power Station last year.
