How to build a complete LEGO Classic Space astronaut collection in 2025

How to build a complete LEGO Classic Space astronaut collection in 2025

2025 has been a great year for LEGO Classic Space collectors, so here’s what a complete line-up of astronauts looks like right now – and how you can build your own…

The LEGO Group has really ratcheted up the variety of Classic Space astronauts in circulation this year, debuting two new fully-realised flavours in 21358 Minifigure Vending Machine and sprinkling the parts for a couple more across DC, DREAMZzz and LEGO Ideas sets. Collecting them all isn’t quite as straightforward as just buying a bunch of sets, though: some require a little more legwork, as we’ll come to shortly.

It’s for that reason that a complete collection of these colourful characters is a pretty impressive feat, as achieved by redditor PR1IMA, who’s popped them all together in a frame with a Classic Space baseplate. It’s a neat display of all 15 variants of LEGO Classic Space astronauts as they stand at the end of 2025, with only the light grey and light blue versions missing their proper helmets – and the latter doesn’t actually exist yet.

If you want to put this sort of display together for yourself, here’s how to find every LEGO Classic Space astronaut at the time of writing.

Black, blue, red, purple, pink, yellow, white and brown: the aftermarket

All of these colourways were released as complete minifigures across one or more sets at one time or another, though are not available in any current LEGO sets. The easiest thing to do now is pick them up whole on the aftermarket, whether that’s through BrickLink, eBay, BrickOwl or any other online marketplace.

You might be surprised to see purple included in this list given it was originally released piecemeal across the Collectible Minifigures range and a Lunar New Year set, but the LEGO Group popped a complete version into an employee-exclusive Design Seminar set in 2023, so there are a handful available on BrickLink now (starting at around £23). It might still be cheaper to part it out, though…

Orange: LEGO Minifigure A Visual History

LEGO Minifigure A Visual History orange space astronaut featured

The orange astronaut has appeared in its complete form (with helmet and air tanks) only once, in 2020’s LEGO Minifigure A Visual History. Fortunately, that hardback book is still in print and available to order, so while the orange helmet and air tanks are currently available on Pick a Brick, the fastest and easiest route to the complete astronaut is the book. It’s marked down to £16.75 at Amazon right now.

Teal, pearl gold: 21358 Minifigure Vending Machine

The two latest complete astronauts to float into view are the fan-voted teal and pearl gold colourways, which debuted in this summer’s 21358 Minifigure Vending Machine. Their pieces have yet to arrive on Pick a Brick (and the jury’s out on whether they ever will), so the most straightforward way to get your hands on them is just to buy the full set. Alternatively, you can hunt down the individual minifigures on the aftermarket.

Dark blue: Build-a-Minifigure, Pick a Brick and DREAMZzz

One of several LEGO Classic Space astronauts released in a roundabout way by the LEGO Group, the parts for the dark blue variant have been drip-fed through various sources since 2024. The torso appeared (with yellow hands) in Build-a-Minifigure stations last year, while the helmet and air tanks followed in 71499 Mateo’s Spray Paint Truck earlier this summer. They’ve since turned up on Pick a Brick but are currently sold out.

Your best bet for assembling this one right now is finding the individual pieces on BrickLink (don’t forget that you’ll need some dark blue hands too). If the rest of 71499 Mateo’s Spray Paint Truck appeals to you that’s one way to acquire the helmet and air tanks, but you’re already going to be hitting up the aftermarket for the torso, so you might as well get the other bits there too – at least until they’re restocked on Pick a Brick.

Green: the aftermarket and Pick a Brick

The green astronaut first arrived in 2014’s 21109 Exo Suit, but as the classic LEGO Space helmet wasn’t in production at the time we had to make do with the modern racing helmet.

The LEGO Group finally made good on this colourway in 2024’s 80054 Megapolis City, and better yet you don’t need to splash out on that expensive Monkie Kid set to get the helmet: it’s available on Pick a Brick for just 25p, while you can grab the legs for another 54p and the classic smiley head for 26p. You’ll just need to turn to the aftermarket for the torso.

Light grey: the aftermarket

One of the most complicated Classic Space astronauts to acquire is easily the light grey version, which unfortunately requires mixing two shades of grey for the complete minifigure. The helmet only comes in the original pre-2004 light grey, while the torso can only be found in today’s light bluish grey thanks to Minifigures Series 17’s Rocket Boy.

For now, your best bet might be building the rest of the minifigure in light grey and holding out for a matching modern helmet in a future set, as the classic light grey helmet is very rare and expensive to pick up in even semi-decent condition on the aftermarket.

Light blue: Build-a-Minifigure and 76300 Arkham Asylum or 21359 Italian Riviera

The latest and as-yet-incomplete Classic Space astronaut is the light blue variant, the torso for which debuted at LEGO Store Build-a-Minifigure stations earlier this year. The air tanks then followed in August’s 21359 Italian Riviera and September’s 76300 Arkham Asylum, but we’re still waiting on a helmet. Fingers crossed that one turns up in 2026.
