Cool cool cool: LEGO Ideas Brooklyn Nine-Nine project hopes third time’s the charm

For the second time this week, a LEGO Ideas project has reached the review stage for the third time – and this one’s hoping to hit the bingpot…

Ben Fankhauser has already taken his LEGO Brooklyn Nine-Nine project to the review stage twice before, in the third 2021 review and the first 2023 review. It was rejected on both occasions, but both times the designer tweaked and resubmitted his design almost instantly – and this latest version is the fastest to reach 10,000 votes yet, managing that feat in a little under two months.

This third pitch once again proposes a model of the sitcom’s 99th Precinct, matching the size and scope of Fankhauser’s second smaller submission rather than his sprawling initial design. It comes in at a little over 1,500 pieces, making up Holt’s office, the kitchen, break room, printer room and bullpen, and Fankhauser has proposed 11 minifigures covering pretty much every main character from the show.

Among those are Jake Peralta, Amy Santiago, Raymond Holt, Terry Jeffords, Rosa Diaz, Charles Boyle, Gina Linetti, Michael Hitchcock, Norm Scully, Doug Judy (the Pontiac Bandit) and Kevin Cozner. Just like other LEGO sitcom sets – such as 21336 The Office and 21328 Seinfeld – it’s also jammed with more Easter eggs than you can shake a pot of yoghurt at.

Whether it finally makes the cut in the first 2024 review is down to the LEGO Ideas review board. It may be that the timing just wasn’t right for the first two projects, but there’s also a good chance the LEGO Group feels it’s exhausted the well of sitcom sets at this point. We’ll find out for sure later this year – perhaps around October – when the results of this review are announced.

This is the second project this week to reach the review stage for the third time, right behind Chris Orchard and Brent Waller’s Clockwork Solar System.
