A deep dive into the LEGO BrickLink Designer Program Series 8 University of Science has highlighted the build's enormous scale while showcasing the intricate details found throughout both its interior and exterior.
Early reviews of all five BrickLink Designer Program Series 8 projects are beginning to emerge ahead of crowdfunding opening next week. YouTuber Alex Nunes and his wife Mindy have now provided an in-depth look at KingCreations' ambitious university build.
Nunes explains that the 3,991-piece model is designed to serve as the centrepiece of the educational district in a LEGO City layout. The building can be displayed fully open at more than a metre wide, allowing builders to view both the detailed exterior and interior at the same time, or closed up to fit more easily into a city display.
Although he originally intended to display the model closed to save space, Alex found himself drawn to the amount of detail on both sides of the build.
"I love seeing the front of it. I love seeing the back of it," said the YouTuber. "I felt like I was missing out on something if I didn't see it displayed fully."
As a result, he even suggested purchasing two copies of the set and displaying them back-to-back, sharing images of the concept to create a complete university complex while preserving the detailed facades.

The massive model includes 18 minifigures, featuring a mix of teachers, students and even a groundsman. Several birds and squirrels are also included to bring the campus grounds to life.

On the exterior, Alex highlighted details such as the clock tower, spires, stained-glass window and the university's stone owl mascot. There are also trees and benches surrounding the building, helping create a realistic campus environment.
One criticism Alex noted was that some of the trees felt slightly insecure when handled. However, he praised their appearance, particularly the small details, including pieces used to represent nuts for squirrels to eat.
Speaking about the architecture, Mindy said: "It definitely speaks to that older architecture. It has an interesting cathedral feel.
"There are stained glass windows, tall towers and arches, and details we can appreciate."
Inside, the university features two accessible levels. While the exterior is enormous, some interior sections have been filled in to improve the model's overall stability.
The central hall includes a grand staircase and chandelier, while a hidden compartment inside the tower houses a secret experiment.
The left side of the building contains a library and classroom. The classroom includes a swappable chalkboard that can be used to represent different lessons and features a hidden reference to styrene, a component of the ABS plastic used to manufacture LEGO bricks.
On the opposite side, builders will find a chemistry laboratory complete with computers, glass vials and Bunsen burners. There is also an astronomy room featuring a telescope, alongside a combined archaeology and geology classroom filled with fossils, geodes and a giant skull.
A botany classroom packed with plants further highlights the variety of subjects represented throughout the university.
The University of Science will be available during the BrickLink Designer Program Series 8 crowdfunding phase, which begins on June 9 at 4pm BST. The project is priced at £329.99 / $359.99 / €359.99.
Crowdfunding will remain open until June 18, or until available stock is exhausted. The university is one of five projects included in BrickLink Designer Program Series 8.
