LEGO Up-Scaled Blue Astronaut doesn't make it easier to find its minifigure counterpart

LEGO 40921 Up-Scaled Blue Astronaut Minifigure breaks the mould from its predecessors, keeping the hunt for its minifigure interesting.

Unlike 40649 Up-Scaled LEGO Minifigure, the most recent update to the line of up-scaled minifigure sets, 40921 Up-Scaled Blue Astronaut Minifigure, doesn't include a tiny minifigure version of the larger set. In the earlier version, the minifigure 'pilots' the brick-built version from inside its head, available to see when hinged open.

40921 Up-Scaled Blue Astronaut Minifigure is another oversized robot, but this time piloted not by a tiny version of itself but by a brick-built robot.

That means there's still no modern LEGO set to find the blue astronaut in whole. It's certainly not the hardest colour of all the Classic Space astronauts to track down, however.

If you don't mind a blue astronaut with movie-accurate damage to look like Benny in The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, torsos are relatively easy to come by. However, clean torso prints are harder to find.

Of course, blue legs and the simple smiling minifigure face are both common in previous and current LEGO sets, leaving just the torso, oxygen tanks and helmet. Blue torso and tanks are featured in 850423 Minifigure Presentation Boxes from 2012 and can otherwise be found in limited-edition minifigure packs. The classic helmet in blue was most recently featured in NINJAGO’s 71708 Gamer’s Market from 2020.

You can find complete blue Classic Space astronauts on BrickLink for an average price of £8.32 – which isn't too bad when compared to the much higher prices for some of the rarer colours. Even if 40921 Up-Scaled Blue Astronaut Minifigure didn't make it easier to add blue to your space line-up, the minifigure might be included in a future GWP.

Doomslizer’s Build, Paint and Play! was selected as a future LEGO Ideas GWP, and the original design features a blue astronaut. That could still be subject to change, but if the fan designer's inclusion holds, this could plug any potential gaps in your collection in one fell swoop.
