The wait for LEGO Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Ship increases while GWP value skyrockets

The value of LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean’s new gift-with-purchase is skyrocketing on the aftermarket, while the shipping date for the set itself is getting increasingly further away.

10365 Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Ship went on back order pretty quickly on release day in most regions, while its exclusive gift-with-purchase 5009609 Captain Jack Sparrow’s Compass sold out in just a couple of days. Anyone hoping to get their hands on both sets is now staring down the barrel of a long wait – and an expensive time of things on the aftermarket.

Over on BrickLink, sales of 5009609 Captain Jack Sparrow’s Compass have steadily risen in price over the past few days, starting at £36.99 and topping out most recently at an eye-watering £81.22. You’re looking at a similar bill if you head to eBay instead, where recent copies have sold for around the £85 mark on average, but several have reached three figures. One copy sold yesterday for a remarkable £135.

LEGO Jack Sparrows Compass GWP eBay prices 1024x816

That’s getting close to half the value of 10365 Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Ship, which retails for £299.99 in the UK, making for a pretty effective day-one discount for those who choose to move on the gift-with-purchase. The LEGO Icons set itself is also proving difficult to come by, with some fans choosing to pay slightly (though not massively) over the odds on eBay to get one as soon as possible.

You don’t need to do that, though: unlike the GWP, the set will eventually be restocked at LEGO.com, and you can still place an order in most regions at the time of writing. It is on back order, mind, so you’ll have a bit of a wait on your hands. In the UK, the current shipping date is November 7, while in parts of Europe and the US the model will simply ‘ship in 60 days’ – which from publication date of this story is November 15.

As of September 14, the Black Pearl was back-ordered to only October 7 in the UK, so it’s jumped another month in the past few days. Mad as it sounds given it’s only September, now is probably the time to pull the trigger if you want to secure your copy of 10365 Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Ship in time for Christmas…
