LEGO better judges demand for its latest free gift

The LEGO Group doesn’t always accurately predict demand for its gifts-with-purchase, but it looks to have hit the mark with the latest freebie.

Originally available exclusively to LEGO Insiders from June 21 to 23 with qualifying orders, 40690 Tribute to Jules Verne’s Books was always destined to be available to everyone else from June 24 to 30 – as long as stock of the latest in a long line of tribute gifts-with-purchase held out. And with one eye on February’s 40712 Micro Rocket Launchpad, that was never guaranteed.

That Classic Space gift-with-purchase launched exclusively for LEGO Insiders from February 16 to 18, with wider availability reportedly planned from February 19 to 25. But 40712 Micro Rocket Launchpad ended up selling out within that initial Insiders window as the LEGO Group seemingly failed to predict demand, and so it was never actually available to non-Insiders.

Not so with 40690 Tribute to Jules Verne’s Books, which can now be acquired by anyone and everyone at LEGO.com by spending at least £135 / $150 / €150 until June 30 (or while stocks last), even if you don’t have an Insiders account (though you really should – it’s free to join and includes plenty of benefits).

The 351-piece set follows in the footsteps of sets like 40410 Charles Dickens Tribute and 40450 Amelia Earhart Tribute, only this time paying homage to the author’s works more so than the man himself (though he does get a minifigure too). It’s built as an open book with icons from his stories springing out, including the Nautilus from Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas.

Head over to LEGO.com to snap up your copy of 40690 Tribute to Jules Verne’s Books with orders above £135 / $150 / €150. You’ve got until June 30 – or while stocks last – to do so.
