LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight – What don’t we know?

We still have questions about the upcoming TT Games title

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight – What don’t we know?

Mere days remain until the launch of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, but there’s still plenty we don’t know about the upcoming superhero video game.

Bruce Wayne’s crimefighting alter ego will return on consoles and PCs next week in the cowl and cape shape of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, the first TT Games title in over four long years. However, despite a number of trailers and recent hands-on preview events, there’s plenty we don’t know about the upcoming video game.

With that in mind, here are seven questions that we still have regarding LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, ahead of its impending launch in just a few days’ time.

1 – How long will it take to complete the game?

From what we know so far, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight's story missions will be split across six main chapters and should take around 15 hours to finish. However, those players planning to go for 100% completion and collect every single item in the game are looking at over 50 hours in total in order to reach that achievement.

2 – Which villains are in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight?

There are many familiar villainous faces in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, but only a handful of the Caped Crusaders enemies have been revealed to date. We’ve already seen the likes of The Joker, Penguin, Bane, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Ra’s al Ghul and Egghead, but it’s not yet known if players will encounter those characters (and many more foes) in person or if they’ll just pop up in cut scenes.

3 – What’s the game’s story?

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight draws its inspiration from over 80 years of DC Comics lore, including movies, TV shows, video games and more media. Its story begins by tracing Batman’s origins, from young Bruce Wayne to Gotham City’s nocturnal protector, and is said to present an all-new adventure for players to experience, albeit one that uses Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy as its backbone.

That means everything from the classic Batman ’66 TV series, Tim Burton's movies and comic books through to Rocksteady Studios' Arkham Asylum games, animated series and Matt Reeves' The Batman film will all make an appearance.

4 – Where does The Mayhem Collection take place?

Those who purchase the LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Deluxe Edition will be able to access additional content that includes The Mayhem Collection, which arrives this sometime this September. That add-on will allow players to cause trouble in Gotham City as The Joker and Harley Quinn, although a recent trailer for the DLC also hinted there may be a previously unseen new funfair location to explore too.

5 – Will there be DLC beyond September 2026?

At this stage, it’s too early to say if more DLC will be coming for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight beyond The Mayhem Collection. Having said that, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga did receive some additional character packs months after the game was released, so it’s possible that TT Games may support its latest title way beyond launch.

6 – When will the Nintendo Switch version be released?

The Nintendo Switch version of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight was initially announced when first details of the game were revealed last year, but then plans changed. As things currently stand, that specific iteration of the game can be wishlisted for now, with an official release date on Nintendo Switch still very much up in the air.

7 – Why doesn’t LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight include an exclusive minifigure?

This is a puzzle that only The Riddler would be able to solve. Many licensed LEGO video games released by TT Games between 2011 and 2022 included a physical Deluxe Edition that came with an exclusive minifigure, such as Luke Skywalker with Blue Milk in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

However, things have changed considerably since then and many gamers are now more likely to be buying digital copies of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, potentially explaining the absence of a unique minifigure for the upcoming title.

There is some good news though, as those who purchase a copy of 76330 Batman Logo will receive a code to add a digital Golden Batman minifigure to their Batcave wardrobe, the only way to obtain that specific version of the Caped Crusader.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is due to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on May 22 and can be wishlisted on Switch 2 for release at a later date. Players who purchase the Deluxe Edition of the game can be the hero Gotham City needs a whole three days earlier on May 19.
