LEGO Arsenal Ideas 10K project pays tribute to The Invincibles

A LEGO Ideas project is trying to revive the concept of LEGO football stadiums, starting with Highbury and Arsenal’s Invincibles – and 10,000 people want to see it happen.

The latest LEGO Ideas project to reach the review stage has done so in just seven weeks, racing to the required 10,000 votes with the help of Arsenal fans around the world. Designed by PetaS, Arsenal F.C. – The Invincibles pitches a slightly different concept to the LEGO Group’s previous microscale stadiums (such as Old Trafford and Camp Nou), focusing on only a single section of Arsenal’s original home ground (in use from 1913 to 2006).

The 2,999-piece model depicts Highbury’s east stand and main entrance, and includes minifigures of then-Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and the starting XI that went unbeaten for the entire 2003/04 season (hence being nicknamed ‘The Invincibles’). Details around the ground include opening side walls, the box office, a dressing room and a podium for the players to celebrate their 2-1 win over Leicester City on the final day of the season.

Whether this project actually winds up as an official set is now up to the LEGO Ideas team, but it wouldn’t be the LEGO Group’s first foray into football beyond its trio of microscale stadiums. LEGO Ideas has already ventured down that path with 21337 Table Football (though perhaps the less said about that the better), while various sets and Collectible Minifigures in recent years have toyed with recreating the world’s most popular sport.

There are a couple of obvious barriers to success, though: first is that the LEGO Group would presumably have to work out licensing agreements with 12 different people who no longer have explicit ties to Arsenal (the project specifically recreates Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Sol Campbell and so on as minifigures).

Second is that this would be a pretty pricey set… although given Arsenal’s season ticket prices, the club’s fans are probably used to paying over the odds by now. We’ll find out its future for certain in early 2025 with the results of the second LEGO Ideas 2024 review. For now, check out the table below to see every project in this review round so far.
