LEGO Architecture 21062 Trevi Fountain plays with light more than the 2014 set as the designer has explained the seemingly unusual colours.
Shortly following its reveal, we compared the upcoming
Designer Mary Wilson has explained this odd colour choice in the set, detailing why an all-white Trevi Fountain model isn't the best way to recreate the landmark over a decade after the first LEGO Architecture model.
"This colour in the back of the facade is a light nougat, and we've used some tan in it," shared Wilson to Zusammengebaut. "We really wanted to capture what it feels like to visit on a warm summer's day and maybe draw out some memories for people who have been there on vacation.
"Although the Trevi Fountain in real life is carved from the same stone almost throughout its entirety, we have to remember that it has a setting around it so there's a special focus on the piazza, which is surrounded by other buildings that are all very bright colourful hues. The light kind of gets captured in there and casts different shades along it, and that's brought out by some of the gradients in this set and the water with different colours to represent shadow and depth."

It's not often that LEGO sets get to experiment with lighting when it comes to the colour palette, but it's a choice that helps
Mary Wilson was able to draw on real-life experience with the Trevi Fountain to integrate this colour palette into the model too.
"I first went in 2019 and saw the Trevi Fountain in person, I got my picture in front, I threw my coin in and then I also saw the version that was made in the LEGO store in Rome," continued Wilson. "After I was able to design 21062 Trevi Fountain, I went and visited again and was able to appreciate my work and take it all in."
LEGO Architecture 21062 Trevi Fountain will be available to buy from March 1 for £139.99 / $159.99 / €159.99 and is available to pre-order now in the UK and Europe.
