With just shy of 300 pieces, 75636 Windmill Village Hut costs only £24.99 / $29.99 / €29.99. That's a great deal for a licensed model, even without considering the actual contents of the set or what it's based on. The smallest of the LEGO One Piece sets is nothing short of essential for fans of the series, depicting the moment that starts Luffy's journey, which doesn't necessitate a larger and more expensive model.

Selecting this specific prequel scene for the most affordable LEGO One Piece set is an interesting but decisive choice, instantly appealing to the franchise's biggest fans with an entry-level model. That appeal comes mostly from a fan-favourite character who's only available in this set, but first up is the build itself.

The build of 75636 Windmill Village Hut is a good size, recreating the hut that houses Partys Bar, complete with a menu and ample space inside for patrons. Considering the size and cost of this creation, it's a fantastic depiction of the bar that complements the scene well. The wooden colour scheme and thatched roof only add to the build too.

Just outside of the hut is a bounty notice board that has enough space for all eight of the posters that are randomly scattered throughout the LEGO One Piece sets. It's a simple inclusion, but one that makes this model all the more essential to display the full collection of posters in one place. The pier and boat are also relatively straightforward additions but were needed for this scene specifically, allowing Luffy to find and consume the Gum Gum fruit, starting his pirate adventure.

The minifigures are where 75636 Windmill Village Hut shines, as all three are exclusive to this small set. Shanks is the star of the show as a fan-favourite character that is mostly featured in flashback scenes in the Netflix series, only allowing him to be included in this build. Shanks has an exclusive variant of the straw hat piece with his red hair, as well as a piece with just his hair. Including both makes sense for the scene, and it's good to see the LEGO Group maintain such accuracy.

A young Luffy is next with an exclusive torso and face print. While this minifigure is going to be specific to this flashback sequence, it's a great and essential inclusion, but not quite as interesting as Shanks. Makino rounds out the selection, and she is unfortunately not as memorable as the other two. She'll be behind the bar most of the time, and in that sense, her design – including her unprinted dress element – fulfils this purpose adequately.

With three exclusive minifigures and a fan-favourite character, a place to display the collectable posters and a low asking price, 75636 Windmill Village Hut is nothing short of an essential LEGO One Piece set. It will appeal first and foremost to fans of the franchise, but it's priced such that it may find its way into a few other collections too.
