'Tis the season for… well, not really. But we've got a festive review of LEGO 41843 Family Christmas Tree for you anyway.
41843 Family Christmas Tree uses over 3,000 pieces to create a densely-packed Christmas tree that's nearly half a metre tall. Open up the bushy leaves, and you'll find Santa's workshop within, along with five elves to help Santa and Mrs Claus prepare for the big day itself. We've got over three months to go until Christmas, but should the next LEGO Family set be on your Christmas list?

As with all LEGO Family sets, 41843 Family Christmas Tree is designed to be built as a group, geared towards builders of all ages. There's nothing overly challenging in putting the set together, so it's ideal for both younger builders or newcomers to LEGO. Considering this is a Christmas set, it instantly strikes as an excellent way to get the whole family or a group of friends involved in a LEGO build during the holiday season, no matter whether some have built any LEGO before.
A simple build doesn't mean that the final effect is dull, however. The details throughout are well thought out and inject a splash of typical LEGO humour, whether that's through Santa seemingly naming himself Employee of the Month or the brick-built elf backpack that's like Doc Ock's arms but for making presents.
You'll be hard-pressed to find as dense a LEGO set as this one (which is not a typical compliment for a LEGO set). The leaves are bushy and thick, and can be arranged so you really can hardly see the hidden grotto within. The use of pearlescent studs and transparent red and orange bulbs bring the tree to life. No light brick is required: the contrast alone makes the decorations appear to glow.

When you do hook a finger behind the leaves to open up the hinged sections of the interiors, you'll find vibrant snapshots of life at the North Pole hidden inside 41843 Family Christmas Tree. Admittedly, swinging the sections out does take some finesse and is perhaps less suited to some younger builders to make sure the leaves don't go flying.
Similarly, the rooms are creatively decorated, but some of the areas are not easily accessible, especially towards the back of the lowest level. There's a nifty postbox to store letters to Santa, but it's too far back for even the nimblest of hands to reach once the build is complete. The small interior footprint also means it's tricky to store minifigures inside the tree when closed up. There is a cardboard box included for easy storage, but it would have been nice for a tiny bit more space, so you could leave minifigures posed within more easily.

Nonetheless, the 3,171 pieces are certainly put to good work – and we haven't even mentioned the minifigure accessories yet. Each elf has its own quirky personality, conveyed through its accessories and face print. A particular favourite for LEGO Space collectors will be the bright green air tanks and helmet, along with the Classic Space Christmas jumper print, but Castle fans should also enjoy the fun festive printing on the shield.
There's clearly some effort to make sure there are details to please everyone. An elf with heart eyes emojis might appeal to some of the youngest builders taking this set on, while the clever moving train function at the base is a technical enough play feature to please an experienced LEGO fan. Turn the knob on the side of the base and the train turns in circles, visible through gaps in the brick-built stand.
It might not be intentional, but the blue train is a neat nod to 10361 Holiday Express Train, the Winter Village release for 2025, tying the two sets together beyond just the fact that they share the same release date.
Indeed, it's easy to see how 41843 Family Christmas Tree could easily slot into a wider Winter Village display, perhaps as a centrepiece on a shelf full of holiday-themed builds, or as a towering Christmas tree in the middle of a festive town square. If you think of the scale of the trees on display in London's Trafalgar Square, for example, you could even argue this tree is minifigure-scale.

Even if you don't have any other Winter Village LEGO sets, 41843 Family Christmas Tree is a great solo piece. From afar, it really does look like a miniature Christmas tree. That makes it easy to combine with non-LEGO decor – or even as a replacement tree for those without the room for a full-size one. The way it opens up could even be adapted to work as an advent calendar, with tiny presents hidden inside (although it's worth noting you don't have a tonne of space to work with when the branches of the tree are folded in).

Despite everything 41843 Family Christmas Tree has to offer, the price does still feel quite high, retailing at £269.99 / $329.99 / €299.99. Even if you break it down as a family activity, it works out as £45 per person for a few hours of activity (if you're lucky). While it's an enchanting display piece, it's also one you're probably only going to trundle out once a year.
That's made easier with sections that snap apart to release, with easy storage in the box the set came in, meaning you don't need to rebuild it every year – but if you're only getting a few weeks of display out of this set, it feels like an even steeper price to pay.

Perhaps the LEGO Group is hoping to capitalise on the growing number of new LEGO builders with 41843 Family Christmas Tree. Long-term LEGO fans who are considering paying £270 for a LEGO set might have other builds higher on their wishlist, but spending a couple of hundred pounds on a combination activity and holiday display isn't out of the realms of possibility during the festive season, which many people save up for all year round.
Where the Winter Village collection is the dedicated LEGO fans' festive purchase, 41843 Family Christmas Tree stands as something new for those who have never touched a LEGO set before. It offers an easy and accessible build, a way to bond with others, and a truly delightful final display – even if it comes at a price that rankles.
If you're a big holiday person, this is easily one of, if not the best, Christmas LEGO set released in recent years, combining festive cheer with a build that's genuinely delightful. That said, you might want to wait for a discount – especially at the most expensive time of year.
Our honest opinion: A LEGO set that captures the true meaning of Christmas – and that includes inflated prices.
