LEGO Ideas 21342 The Insect Collection available now for LEGO Insiders

The landmark 50th LEGO Ideas set is now available exclusively to LEGO Insiders, offering the chance to build your own creepy-crawlies with 21342 The Insect Collection.

Based on a concept by Spanish fan builder and YouTuber José María (who you might also know as hachiroku24), 21342 The Insect Collection includes brick-built versions of a Blue Morpho Butterfly, Chinese Mantis and Hercules Beetle, all situated on a slice of their real-life habitats. The three species are joined by a smaller honeybee and a tiny ladybird, both scaled back from the original pitch.

Compromising on those two bugs has allowed the rest to take the limelight in a way they didn’t in María’s initial design, and their purpose-built stands have elevated the display appeal of 21342 The Insect Collection in no small way. The result is a 1,111-piece model that will make your skin crawl in all the right ways, and should sit very nicely next to the likes of the Botanical Collection and – if you have it – 2015’s 21301 Birds.
