Jabba's Sail Barge is a lot of money for 90% of a LEGO set

LEGO Star Wars 75397 Jabba’s Sail Barge floats on to shelves in October with a hefty price tag for what’s ostensibly 90% of a LEGO set.

Remember the first LEGO Khetanna? 6210 Jabba’s Sail Barge debuted all the way back in 2006, and included not only the Hutt’s pleasure craft, but also a Desert Skiff and the Sarlacc pit to recreate the full opening sequence of Return of the Jedi. All that was achieved with 781 pieces for just £60 / $75. If you want to do the same with this year’s sets, it’s going to set you back £500 / $580.

You will get exactly 4,500 pieces and 17 characters for that money, so these are obviously much bigger and more detailed takes on the same original trilogy icons. But 75397 Jabba’s Sail Barge and 75396 Desert Skiff & Sarlacc Pit are sold separately now, parcelled up in the same way these vehicles were in 2013 (the last time we got a Sail Barge), and that’s cause for consternation.

It’s not only for the eye-watering price tag attached to the barge alone, either: there’s also the small question of day-one DLC (or perhaps minus-two-months DLC) to consider.
