Is LEGO Disney's Main Street too small?

It's a small world after all. Oops, wrong area of Disneyland.

Is LEGO Disney's Main Street too small?

LEGO Disney's upcoming Main Street, U.S.A. model has drawn mixed reactions from the online crowd, thanks to its size and price, and we're out to see whether it is too small.

While I'm personally looking forward to picking up 43302 Main Street, U.S.A. at some point next month, the wider LEGO community has been more critical of the £319.99 / $399.99 / €349.99 build and its overall value. Reactions shared online call out the set's overall contents relative to the price.

The set consists of three buildings on 16x32 baseplates, as well as a fire engine and 16 minifigures. These are made up of 3,899 pieces overall. Those buildings include dense interiors with lots of smaller details and builds, as well as intricate exteriors, taking up the element total with tiny parts.

It doesn't change the fact that this 4,000-piece total only makes up three buildings, though. For additional context, those buildings are the Fire Station with the Disney Family apartment, the Crystal Arcade and the Emporium. That's around one-sixth of the full Main Street, U.S.A. area, being generous with the coverage.

For the full scope of Main Street to be covered at this scale, the LEGO Group would need around 23,000 elements. That would be more than any other LEGO model ever. One solution would have been to adopt either of the Diagon Alley strategies.

The LEGO Group's biggest singular take on Diagon Alley is the retired 75978 Diagon Alley, which features 5,544 pieces for £389.99 / $449.99 / €449.99. That set also only covers a fraction of Diagon Alley, and the LEGO Group expanded on it later with the retiring 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank - Collectors' Edition. The expansion set features 4,803 pieces for £369.99 / $429.99 / €429.99.

While there's a comparison to be drawn between the scales of LEGO Diagon Alley and 43302 Main Street, U.S.A., Diagon Alley opts for larger buildings with flatter and less-detailed facades, whereas LEGO Main Street focuses more on smaller facades with more intricate architecture using much smaller pieces.

It's also worth noting that 75978 Diagon Alley has four buildings on 16x32 baseplates, compared to the three in 43302 Main Street, U.S.A. That explains the piece count of 5,544 in the Harry Potter set versus 3,899 in the Disney build. However, it doesn't explain the prices of each.

75978 Diagon Alley is a licensed model with 5,544 pieces for £389.99 / $449.99 / €449.99. 43302 Main Street, U.S.A has 3,899 elements for £319.99 / $399.99 / €349.99. The Disney set has 29% fewer elements, but a price that is only 17% lower, on average.

Going by these metrics, 43302 Main Street, U.S.A. is indeed too small for its price tag. What this doesn't account for, though, are the two new elements in the 2026 Disney set. This likely doesn't add an extra £70 to the overall value, but it is worth keeping in mind. In terms of minifigures, 75978 Diagon Alley has 17 minifigures versus the 16 of 43302 Main Street, U.S.A. The Disney model wins in that regard.

With the facts laid out, it's up to you to determine whether 43302 Main Street, U.S.A. is indeed too small for the price tag. The new set will be released on June 1, 2026, for LEGO Insiders or on June 4 widely.
