How to get LEGO Pokémon’s rarest sets on launch day

How to get LEGO Pokémon’s rarest sets on launch day

If there's one thing we learned from the LEGO Pokémon pre-orders, it's that certain sets are going to be harder to get hold of than others.

Although the first wave of official LEGO Pokémon sets launches tomorrow on February 27, we've already had a taste of how popular they've proven to be. Gift-with-purchase 40892 Kanto Region Badge Collection sold out within hours in several regions, proving the popularity of both it and its associated set, 72153 Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise.

The GWP comes exclusively with the largest set of the wave, requiring a hefty £579.99 / $649.99 / €649.99 spend in order to qualify for it. Despite that high threshold for entry, if pre-orders are anything to by, it's sure to sell out quickly once again. The LEGO Group has confirmed that some stock has been held back for release day, so there should be a chance to pick up the GWP in stores and online – but it won't last long.

That means it's more vital than ever to be ready to check out at midnight, or head down to LEGO Stores promptly to avoid disappointment tomorrow morning. If you're planning to buy either of the other LEGO Pokémon sets, 72151 Eevee or 72152 Pikachu and Poké Ball, pre-orders are still open right now, so you can already add them to your basket to speed up your shopping process in the morning.

You can also add your delivery address and payment details to your LEGO account now to make your checkout experience faster. Anything you can do to checkout and get your order confirmation faster will help secure the goods for you, with the LEGO Group typically operating a 'first come, first served' basis when GWPs and sets sell out.

As well as the GWP, we're also anticipating that the LEGO Pokémon Insiders Reward, 40911 Mini Pokémon Center, will prove popular, available for LEGO Insiders only for 2,500 points. The exact timing of when it goes live hasn't been confirmed beyond 'from February 27'. Insiders Rewards can sometimes be delayed in appearing in the Rewards Centre after midnight, but we wouldn't recommend holding off on putting in an order for 72153 Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise, lest you risk missing out on the GWP.

Remember that the promotional code for 40911 Mini Pokémon Center will be valid for 60 days, or while stocks last. While we wouldn't recommend waiting the full 60 days, in case stock of the Insiders Reward disappears, you could put through another order later in the day if it takes a few hours for the Insiders Rewards Centre to update.

Judging from the past chaos surrounding 40892 Kanto Region Badge Collection, the GWP is going to be the one to watch, so don't let the wait for 40911 Mini Pokémon Center mean you miss out.

So set your alarm for midnight, and get your LEGO.com account organised ahead of the launch of LEGO Pokémon. In the meantime, check out our full breakdown of all the details of the first LEGO Pokémon wave here.
