We’re into the home stretch in the hunt for LEGO’s Wolfpack Beastmaster

With a brand new series of LEGO Collectibles revving up for May, we’re now entering the final stretch in the hunt for the Wolfpack Beastmaster…

Far and away the most popular character in 71048 Series 27, the Wolfpack Beastmaster initially proved almost impossible to find when the latest batch of Collectible Minifigures dropped in January. Reports flooded the web of collectors scanning tens or hundreds of boxes before (or indeed without) coming across a single Wolfpack minifigure.

It’s not hard to see why these guys have been so desirable. They’re a perfect cocktail of a detailed update to a Classic Castle faction, a bunch of new and versatile prints and pieces, and a brand new and exclusive LEGO animal. But we’ve had minifigures that have ticked two if not all three of those boxes before, and they’ve never proved quite so difficult to find as the Beastmaster.

The explanation there is a pretty simple one: the ability to scan blind boxes to reveal the minifigure inside has made it way easier for collectors and resellers alike to instantly gobble up every Wolfpack Beastmaster they come across. And given the rest of the series is decent if not mind-blowing, it means the focus this time round has been squarely on Series 27’s castle-adjacent character.

But if you haven’t managed to get your hands on a Beastmaster yet – or perhaps the quantity that you’d hoped to find to build out your Wolfpack – time is rapidly running out to complete the hunt. 71048 Series 27 is scheduled to retire by the end of April, making way for 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars to hit shelves on May 1. That’s a standard shelf life for a series of Collectible Minifigures.

It doesn’t mean that 71048 Series 27 will disappear from shops overnight, though. Stock may still be floating around in the weeks and months ahead as stores sell through remaining supplies – 71047 Dungeons & Dragons can still be found here and there several months after retiring at the end of 2024 – but no new copies will be produced and shipped from LEGO factories.

That will only make the Beastmaster even trickier to find, as most widely-shared reports of success in the search have come from collectors who happen on a fresh case of Series 27 minifigures. With only the bones of the series left to pick over from May, chances of stumbling on the already-elusive Wolfpack minifigure are going to be slim to none.

All this is to say that if you’re still hunting for the Beastmaster and his exclusive head, torso, legs, cape and wolf elements, now is the time to really ramp up the search. Previous castle-themed Collectible Minifigures have skyrocketed in value on the aftermarket, and given sealed Wolfpack Beastmaster boxes on BrickLink are already approaching double RRP while they’re still in production, this one is surely going to follow suit.

The good news is that now some of the initial hype around the series has died down, you may find it a little easier to get your hands on a Beastmaster in this final stretch. Matthew and I found one – and only one – in the LEGO Store on January 2, only a day after they’d launched, and it took until late last week for me to find another one in the wild. But the point is I did find one after I’d pretty much given up all hope, so it’s worth persevering through these final few weeks if you’re also still on the hunt. (I appreciate that is very much anecdotal, mind.)
