BrickJournal founder Joe Meno passes away

BrickJournal founder Joe Meno has passed away, with tributes flooding in from across the LEGO community.

Joe's sister Jenifer shared an update on Facebook, stating that he passed away on February 11 surrounded by his family. Joe had been fighting prostate cancer for the last two years.

"My brother had a gift of being able to draw, paint, design and develop robots and art projects," wrote Jenifer. "However, the one thing he loved to do was building and creating with LEGO as well as being a part of this wonderful community. He enjoyed volunteering, teaching others, and supporting important causes. He had a big heart and will be missed dearly."

Joe founded BrickJournal in 2005, going on to create nearly 100 issues of the LEGO magazine. It focused on the LEGO building community, showcasing events, people, and models, as well as contributions and how-to articles by talented builders from around the world. He also helped to organise in-person LEGO fan events like BrickFest.

Heartfelt tributes have been shared on Joe's Facebook page and in LEGO community groups across the web. José from the LEGO Group’s Deep Fandom team on the LEGO Ambassador Network also shared a statement on Joe's passing.

"Joe was part of our community from the very beginning and remained a dedicated and passionate fan throughout the years," wrote José. "He attended the very first Fan Media Days and was actively involved long before the LEGO Ambassador Network existed, helping shape what our community would become.

"Joe served as Community Ambassador for BrickJournal, which published its first issue in June 2005 and recently celebrated 20 years of publishing — an incredible milestone that reflects the energy, creativity, and commitment he brought to the LEGO fan community.

"We know that many of you knew, worked with, or crossed virtual paths with Joe, and we want to extend our heartfelt sympathy to you as well. His presence, generosity, and contributions will be warmly remembered."
