Five rumoured LEGO sets that exceeded expectations in 2025

Five rumoured LEGO sets that exceeded expectations in 2025

You never know what you're going to get when a LEGO rumour first appears, but these sets truly knocked it out of the park in 2025.

We always say to take LEGO rumours with a pinch of salt, and that's partly because some won't pan out. However, there are some LEGO sets that turn out even better than anyone could imagine from the early rumoured details that appear.

To that end, we've rounded up five LEGO sets released in 2025 that have exceeded our early expectations, as part of our look back over this year in LEGO. For the rest of our end-of-year content, check out our ever-growing number of articles here.

77037 Aloy & Varl vs. Shell-Walker & Sawtooth

When we first caught wind of 77037 Aloy & Varl vs. Shell-Walker & Sawtooth, the mood was both hopeful and cautious due to that low price. With not too many Horizon LEGO sets hitting shelves, the rumoured low price tag either meant an incredibly good value set or a potentially sub-par model.

Thankfully, it was the latter. 77037 Aloy & Varl vs. Shell-Walker & Sawtooth features two must-have minifigures, one that's new and unique to this set, paired with buildable creatures that both look good and are perfectly geared towards play.

71847 The Guardian Dragon

The earliest rumours for 71847 The Guardian Dragon told us the price of $150, that it would include two minifigures, and a name that suggested it would be based on a dragon. That stage back in January was before a lot of the more mature, display-focused LEGO NINJAGO sets had hit shelves, so the low minifigure number sparked some concern about what would go into a set to warrant that price.

The end result? One of the best dragon models on the market in any theme, let alone NINJAGO, paired with two minifigures that perfectly round out the model to create a must-have, even if you're not a NINJAGO fan.

75430 Wicket the Ewok

Ever since 75371 Chewbacca, there's always been some trepidation around rumoured buildable Star Wars characters – especially one as popular as Wicket. Thankfully, 75430 Wicket the Ewok knocked it out of the park, nailing the tricky challenge of recreating soft fur in LEGO bricks and managing to make his little face cute rather than creepy.

31217 The Fauna Collection - Tiger

Next up is 31217 The Fauna Collection - Tiger, first rumoured around this time last year and only the second entry in the Fauna Collection. While 31211 Macaw Parrots utilised a stripped-back style, it was hard to imagine how that could apply to a tiger, meaning this rumour went largely under the radar.

The end result, however, is a colourful LEGO artwork that packs quite the visual punch, putting an artistic spin on a tiger's head but in a way that is still authentic to the original animal. It's quite different from its predecessor, 31211 Macaw Parrots, and underlines how much more potential there is in the LEGO Art theme to continue experimenting into new areas.

10349 Happy Plants

The LEGO Botanicals theme originally grew out of 18+ Icons sets, so a rumour centred around a 9+ Botanicals set (while not unheard of) raised some eyebrows. Who would have thought it would result in a set that the Brick Fanatics team has returned to time and time again as one of the best-value, surprise stars of 2025? After all, how can you not love those tiny faces?
