The LEGO Group has accidentally published an early image of the as-yet-unrevealed 21353 Botanical Garden, an upcoming LEGO Ideas set based on a design by Valentina Bima.
An ‘Adults Welcome’ splash page at LEGO.com temporarily hosted a lifestyle image of the model, which is said to be landing on shelves later this year, but it’s since been taken down. From that low-resolution image it looks like the build is split over a pair of 32x32-stud baseplates, but the pavement in Valentina’s original design doesn’t run the full width of the model.
That means that while it will match the base height of the LEGO Group’s Modular Buildings Collection, it seems unlikely that it will connect directly to those sets. Which makes sense: botanical gardens generally aren’t sandwiched between other buildings in real life. But it may be a dealbreaker for modular buildings collectors who just want to drop this one into their city with minimal hassle.
It’s also a break away from Valentina’s original submission, which pitched a structure readymade for the Modular Buildings Collection. But the LEGO Ideas theme has famously sidestepped modular buildings until now, so popping a set like this on regular baseplates is probably the best we could have hoped for.
From this one image it looks like 21353 Botanical Garden – and we’re just guessing on the set number and name by the way, but it seems logical given this will presumably be following 21352 Magic of Disney – will trade some of the original model’s verticality for width, while still delivering a hefty domed building. There look to be plenty of minifigures included too, perhaps as many as 12 (depending on how well you can squint).
We’ll hopefully find out more about 21353 Botanical Garden (and whether it really is numbered and named as such) in the near future.
