Images of the first LEGO Friends 2024 set have surfaced in the official LEGO Builder app, giving us a glimpse at the mini-doll theme’s latest shopping mall.
42604 Heartlake City Shopping Mall is a spiritual successor to both 2021’s 41450 Heartlake City Shopping Mall and 2014’s 41058 Heartlake Shopping Mall, 10 years on from the release of the latter. This latest set distinguishes itself as part of the rebooted Friends theme, however, arriving in more muted colours that should give it more universal appeal (both within and beyond the traditional Friends audience).
The 1,237-piece set builds on 41450 Heartlake City Shopping Mall by including not one but two escalators, both of which appear to be fully-functional. They’ll grant its swathe of mini-doll characters access to a multitude of shops, which sell everything from toys and tech to make-up and sporting goods. As you’d expect from any good LEGO Friends set, it’s also packed with details, including a map of the mall, a rooftop food court, an ice cream stand and more.
If you’ve got a keen eye for new LEGO elements, you might also have spotted the new banana skin piece thrown out next to the bright green rubbish bin. (LEGO Mario Kart is surely right around the corner now.) We’ll hopefully see more of what 42604 Heartlake City Shopping Mall has up its sleeve when the LEGO Friends 2024 set pops up on LEGO.com, which could happen as soon as today.
For now, the LEGO Group has yet to confirm a price or release date beyond '2024', but the safe money is on January 1.
