Is the Caped Crusader a smash hit?

First LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight reviews are in

Some reviewers have already had chance to play through LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight early and here’s what they thought of the game.

Our full review of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will be published in the coming days, but others have already been waxing lyrical about the TT Games title. So far, the majority of those reviews have been almost overwhelmingly positive, revealing just how well the Caped Crusader’s new digital outing is being received.

Many reviewers have been awarding LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight a very impressive 10/10, praising the games’ fluid combat, open-world Gotham City and immersive (and original) story.

“Every kind of Batman is in here. Everything has a part to play,” said Eurogamer, noting that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight features “a stream of deep-cuts with cracking Arkham-light combat” and that the game “is as jittery and colourful and pleasing and surprising as anything you might find by thrusting your hand into a big pile of LEGO bricks.

“LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is the Arkham successor we need and deserve,” stated ScreenRant. “The end result is a fun, funny, and self-aware homage to the Dark Knight that is equal parts LEGO wackiness and phenomenal Batman Arkham successor.”

“LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is impossible to put down,” gushed GAMINGbible “It manages to imbue the intensity of Gotham with just the right level of whimsy and humour. The game’s perfectly crafted open-world and varied mission design don’t simply make it a blast to play.”

Not all reviewers have been giving LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight full top marks though, with a number of media outlets not quite completely swayed by the latest TT Games experience.

“LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is lovingly made,” said IGN. “A largely successful attempt at sophisticating LEGO combat that suffers a bit from repetitive, one-note encounter design, combined with a good mixture of puzzles, powers its homage-laden levels.”

“Is it a challenging game? No, not at all,” added Video Games Chronicle, “but I can’t fault the fun I had playing it, and the love it clearly has for the Caped Crusader. The volume of collectables will probably mean that a very small fraction of those who dive into this version of Gotham will 100% it, but even players who are just here for a brick-by-brick tour of Batman’s best bits will have a great time.”

“Some levels are too short end far too abruptly. Batman is sorely miscast, and never quite finds his footing” commented TheGamer, although the review did conclude by saying, “Legacy of The Dark Knight has set a new plastic mould for TT Games, and is easily the studio’s best work since the golden age of Batman, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and Marvel Super Heroes.”

You’ll be able to check out LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight for yourself when it’s released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on May 22 and can be wishlisted on Switch 2 for release in 2026. Note that those players who purchase the Deluxe Edition will get to tackle the game early from May 19.
