First details of LEGO Speed Champions 2024 sets paint a worrying picture

The first details on next year’s LEGO Speed Champions line-up have surfaced online, suggesting the theme will be getting further price increases and fewer sets in 2024.

LEGO Speed Champions kicked things up a notch in August 2022, when two movie-inspired vehicles debuted outside the theme’s typical March release window. 76917 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) then followed in January 2023, and a further four sets bulked out this year’s collection in March. But we’ve heard nothing about any more sets for this year – and listings for next year now paint an even more worrying picture for fans of the veteran racing theme.

Price comparison site brickmerge.de has published listings for four new LEGO Speed Champions 2024 sets, the prices and piece counts for which point to three individual cars and a two-pack. That’s one down from the recent template of five sets per year – either as four individual cars and one double-pack, or three individual cars and two double-packs – so represents an immediate dip in quantity.

The prices for the sets are also not especially encouraging, as brickmerge.de has listed the three smaller sets at €26.99 – a €2 bump on the current prices of individual cars, which already jumped by €5 apiece in 2022. The larger set is priced at €49.99, meanwhile, which is a full €5 uplift on 76909 Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 E Performance & Mercedes-AMG Project One and 76918 McLaren Solus GT & McLaren F1 LM.

LEGO Speed Champions still offers some of the best bang for your buck among the entire LEGO portfolio – especially from the perspective of the building experience – and even these price bumps probably won’t change that. But the theme is surely going to hit a ceiling eventually…

Remember that these details should not be considered confirmed for the moment, and that brickmerge.de has not necessarily listed every single LEGO Speed Champions set coming in 2024. Fingers crossed the team has more sets up its sleeve for later in the year, including more movie-inspired vehicles – for which it apparently has a 10-year plan, let's not forget.
