Eight things the new LEGO Jurassic Park T. rex skeleton is longer than

From UCS Star Wars sets to the biggest LEGO Castle yet, here are eight quite long things that are still shorter than LEGO Jurassic Park 76968 Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex.

Clocking in at 105cm from tip to tail, 76968 Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex is easily one of the longest LEGO sets of all time. But until you get it in your hands, it’s hard to convey just how long it really is. So, in the interests of science, I’ve put my review copy up against a bunch of relatively long things I found around my house – all of which are shorter than the T. rex.

8 – An unfolded Lion Knights’ Castle

The biggest LEGO Castle set of all time has a pretty imposing presence when fully hinged open, but it’s still dwarfed by this dinosaur, at least in length if not height. You might notice that my copy of 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle has an upgraded ramp – head here to learn more about that.

7 – My cat

While I was taking these pictures, Kiki (who previously guest starred on Brick Fanatics in my review of 21349 Tuxedo Cat) decided to take part in the ‘am I longer than a dinosaur’ challenge. She failed. Although she didn't really even try – when she stretches out she's way longer than this. Next time, Kiks.

6 – UCS Jabba’s Sail Barge

76968 Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex may be shorter than 10294 Titanic, but it’s longer than LEGO Star Wars’ latest cruise liner, the 3,942-piece 75397 Jabba’s Sail Barge, and by some distance too.

5 – The Skywalker lightsaber

Whether you consider it Luke’s, Anakin’s or Rey’s, this electronic lightsaber toy I grabbed from the loft is shorter than 76968 Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex. Much shorter than I was expecting, in fact. (The lightsaber probably seemed bigger when I was younger.)

4 – A portrait of my other cat

I couldn’t let Kiki have all the fun, so here’s how 76968 Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex stacks up next to a portrait of my other cat, Harley. I picked this one specifically because I was not prepared for how big this portrait would be when I ordered it…

3 – Barad-dûr lying on its side

I didn’t have a tonne of other long LEGO sets lying around for this shoot, so I did the next best thing: picked my tallest LEGO set and laid it on its side. Sorry, Sauron: 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr falls just short of the T. rex. (Perspective makes it a closer-run thing than it actually is in reality, too.)

2 – A tape measure set to 104cm

Just to really hammer home how long 76968 Dinosaur Fossils: Tyrannosaurus rex is (105cm), here it is next to a tape measure set to 104cm.

1 – The shelf I was going to put it on
