A new video takes players behind the scenes of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight’s development, revealing just what went on inside the video game build.

The Standard Edition of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is due to drop tomorrow, finally giving patient players access to the long-awaited TT Games title. Ahead of the Caped Crusader’s imminent arrival, a new Inside the Build promotional video has dropped today, revealing how a unique collaboration between all parties involved resulted in the Caped Crusader’s latest digital adventure.

“Creativity is in the DNA of the LEGO Group, explained Jonathan Smith, Development Team Head at TT Games. “They are connoisseurs of playfulness and fantastic partners, as we try to build something that’s never been seen before.”

That sentiment is echoed by Jesper C. Nielsen, Creative Lead at the LEGO Group, who talks about the special relationship between the two companies, one that’s resulted in decades of successful video game titles, and just how important it is to connect both the physical and digital worlds.

“For us, there’s a magic in actually seeing what we are working on come to life,” said Jesper. “And that’s what happens with this game. We try to make sure that what you see in these games can actually also be done in the real world. So, if you collect your bricks, you’ll be able to construct exactly what you see. We try to make an almost seamless connection between physical and digital.

“The LEGO brand and TT Games go way back. They’ve been a part of our family forever. They transform what we do with LEGO bricks into their storytelling. There’s almost a tactile feel to their games that makes it feel just right.”

The LEGO DC design team also discussed how important it is for the work that they do to be accurately reflected in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, with one eye on ensuring the video game has the correct visual styling.

“We really want [players] to feel like these minifigures have come straight from the LEGO box into the game,” noted LEGO Senior Designer Mark Tranter. “I think one thing that’s definitely been turned up is the level of detail we have in the game."

“If a build in the game is not sufficient when you build in real-life, then we find another solution,” said LEGO DC model designer Tin Nguyen. “That’s the design of the Batmobile. We’re trying to make it look as nice as possible, but in the game, we also try to find a way to put some LEGO twists into Batman.

“TT Games did a great job on the wheels. Seeing the flames, seeing the front bumper details. It’s just the way I imagined it.”

“The models team, they’re incredibly talented,” added Deborah Crook, Sr. Advanced Technical Designer at TT Games. “They can be quite sort of strict on what works and what doesn’t. You kind of need someone to do that.”

That unique partnership has resulted in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight achieving high review scores, with the game ultimately likely to be one of the best selling titles of 2026.

"Over 86 years, we've seen many version of Batman in the LEGO world," concluded Jonathan Smith. "All of those can be combined into one essential Batman, that retains the power of the character and makes it relevant for all audiences today. That's our LEGO Batman."

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight’s Standard Edition launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on May 22 and can be wishlisted on Switch 2 for release sometime in 2026.
