The LEGO Ideas team has officially revealed the upcoming Insiders reward, 40789 Flying Moon Car – but how does it compare to the original?
Designed by fan designer EnchantingNoodle, 40789 Flying Moon Car is due for launch on July 1, available to LEGO Insiders for 2,500 Insiders points. Made up of 211 pieces, it's got slightly fewer elements to it than the original design, which had 241 pieces, so what other changes has it gone through?
We've broken down everything that's new and everything that's stayed the same from the set's conception to it hitting the Rewards Centre on July 1.
A pop of colour for the minifigures
Starting off with the minifigures, the base concept of two space travellers remains, but with more colour than the original design. The final look sees one yellow-suited minifigure and one in green, with more details printed on their torsos than the original look as well.
However, the classic Space logo remains, tying the set to its roots, and they are both sporting transparent air domes as well – thankfully, as the Moon Car itself has no roof.
A new lick of paint
The blue appears to be a slightly deeper shade in the final LEGO Ideas set, but it's hard to tell if that's just a rendering difference between the two images. In terms of the build itself, much of the details remain the same, down to the sloped grills on the sides. However, more variety of colour has been included, with some blue elements changed to dark grey and white to offer a bit more depth and variety in the build.
It also looks like a different windscreen element was used, keeping it smaller and putting the focus more closely on the minifigures themselves.
New and improved display stand

The stand has also been streamlined into a less clunky build, although the same idea of having a section of the moon's rocky floor remains. The design of the lunar lamppost has also been refined, but ultimately the whole look stays pretty close to the original concept, only finetuning some of the smaller details to help make them pop.
