LEGO Editions 43025 Nike Air Max 95 is based on a real-life shoe from – you guessed it – 1995, but how does it compare to the original kick?
43025 Nike Air Max 95 adopts not only the original style but also the first colourway of the 1995 shoe. Translating soft fabric into LEGO bricks is no small feat, so we've put the two side-by-side in photos to see how well the recreation has worked.
Looking at the shape first, the Air Max 95's sole features the gas-filled pouches that gave the range its name. You can see them in both the shoe and the LEGO Editions set, distinguishable thanks to the vivid yellow colour. They were designed to provide cushioning for the foot as you walk, run, or ball.
In 43025 Nike Air Max 95, trans elements have been used to create two pouches at the front and one larger one at the back, just like the original shoe. Although it's hard to tell from the official photos, especially when the shoe is on its black stand, but they also appear to be at least partially visible from the sole.
The main section of the shoe also features what appear to be stickered elements to mimic the breathable, net-like fabric that makes up the Air Max 95. To recreate the effect of the neon connectors disappearing under this mesh, differently coloured LEGO bricks wrap around the sides of 43025 Nike Air Max 95.
The laces themselves haven't really been included, referenced only via grey and white angled slopes. You wouldn't really know they're meant to be laces unless you had a pair of real shoes next to them to compare, unlike the style of 32008 Nike Dunk, for example.
In terms of the grey gradient of the shoe, the LEGO Group's colour palette forced the designers to include sand blue in the line-up. That doesn't quite match up with the colours of the original shoe, which had a more all-grey look, admittedly with some blue tones – just not as much as you find in the LEGO Editions set.
There do appear to be some printed elements that help bring the shoe to life, like a neon green Nike tick at the heel and the Airmax logo on the tongue of the shoe. With those, as well as the clever design moves we've noted above, even the most basic of sneakerheads will be able to identify 43025 Nike Air Max 95 for what it is.
LEGO Editions 43025 Nike Air Max 95 will be able to purchase from March 28, retailing at £89.99 in the UK, $99.99 in the US, and €99.99 in Europe.
