BrickLink Series 4 LEGO set pre-orders selling for more than double their original price

A handful of listings for the two sold-out LEGO BrickLink Designer Program Series 4 sets have popped up on the aftermarket – and some are fetching more than double their original price.

Both Siege Encampment and Medieval Seaside Market sold through their entire allocation of sets in roughly four hours when crowdfunding for Series 4 started on Tuesday, so anyone hoping to buy one now is plum out of luck: this is a one-time, limited-edition production run. Your only options at this point are piecing it out through BrickLink or Pick a Brick once the instructions are released, or picking up a copy on the aftermarket.

A handful of hopeful backers are hoping to capitalise on that target market by selling their pre-orders for the two LEGO Castle-themed sets on eBay, and despite prices that could reasonably be described as ‘ambitious’, some buyers are biting the bullet and paying over the odds for guaranteed sealed copies.

Both of these sets originally cost £199.99 / $229.99 / €229.99 when pre-ordering through BrickLink. Current listings for Medieval Seaside Market on eBay are hovering around £440 in the UK and between $400 and $500 in the US, while you can expect to pay around the same for Siege Encampment. And while no copies of either set have sold in the UK, some shoppers in other parts of the world are actually paying those prices.

Two copies of Siege Encampment have sold at $399 apiece in the US, with a third fetching $499.99 – or more than double its original RRP – while one copy in Australia has sold for AU$699.99. Four Medieval Seaside Market pre-orders have also sold in the US, coming in at $380 to $420 each. Perhaps the most ambitious auction for one of these sets yet has not had any bites so far, though.

eBay user cha67127 has listed one of their two pre-orders for Siege Encampment for an eye-watering $25,000, with the promise that it will come with two printed instruction manuals (BrickLink Designer Program sets only include digital manuals, to be printed at home) and the choice of printed parts instead of stickers. They say they’ll also hand-deliver it to anywhere in the US, and possibly abroad if you message first.

Still, at least they’ve got a bit of self-awareness about the whole situation. “Only buy this if you can drop $25k without blinking an eye, don't mind waiting until July or possibly August to receive it and are willing to overpay 100x for an item to drastically improve a stranger’s life,” the seller states in the product description. You can’t really knock them for trying at that point.

If you’re considering dropping up to or beyond double the original asking price for Siege Encampment or Medieval Seaside Market, it’s worth bearing in mind that these sets are only comprised of pieces currently in circulation (or expected to be in circulation when they ship in July) – so you may be able to part them out through services like Pick a Brick or BrickLink while spending much less money, even if it does require a little more effort.

All you’ll be missing in that case are the boxes and Siege Encampment’s sticker sheet. The digital instructions for both sets should be publicly available online later this year.
