Yes, LEGO Animal Crossing has the first Nintendo minifigures

LEGO Animal Crossing is doing something that LEGO Super Mario hasn't managed in its three-year run, debuting Nintendo minifigures.

LEGO Super Mario kicked off an ongoing partnership between the LEGO Group and Nintendo in 2020. However, the theme opted for a play-driven experience using a free app with brick-built figures with proportions matching a suite of interactive, electronic figures. Throughout the theme's three-year run so far, there have been no LEGO Super Mario minifigures.

From electronic figures to giant puppet-like builds LEGO Super Mario has included everyone from Peach to Donkey Kong. However, LEGO Animal Crossing's teaser trailer confirms that the theme will be including minifigures of iconic characters from the beginning.

Eight minifigures, including Isabelle, Kapp'n and Tom Nook in their Animal Crossing: New Horizons outfits have been confirmed so far and they've taken the title of the first Nintendo minifigures, despite coming three years after LEGO Super Mario.

Whether LEGO Super Mario will incorporate minifigures in the future has yet to be revealed, though mixing them with the current range of figures may be more difficult – unless they were to be the start of something new. For now, we can rest assured that LEGO Nintendo minifigures are possible.

Further details of LEGO Animal Crossing have yet to be confirmed, but the theme's landing page on LEGO.com confirms that more will be revealed soon, possibly ahead of a 2024 release.
