Everything you need to know before you buy LEGO Disney 43263 Beauty and the Beast Castle

Here's what you need to know about what's easily the most detailed LEGO version of the Beast's enchanted castle we've had so far.

43263 Beauty and the Beast Castle stands a mighty 53cm high, with an open back revealing various key rooms inside. It comes with a stacked line-up of 10 characters, five of which are minifigures, to help populate out the towering palace.

Built in a not-quite-accurate but thematically appropriate colour scheme of lavender and dark red, 43263 Beauty and the Beast Castle instantly strikes a charming statement on the shelf. The varying tiers of turrets and fluted towers give it an impressive amount of depth on a relatively small footprint, considering the piece count. At just 15cm deep, it can slide easily onto even narrow shelves – so long as you've got the height.

You'll also need a fairly substantial budget, priced at £239.99 in the UK, $279.99 in the US, and €279.99 in Europe. That's still cheaper than 2023's 43222 Disney Castle, which was designed by the same LEGO designer behind 43263 Beauty and the Beast Castle, Ryan van Woerkom.

"We wanted this to be a little bit more attainable than 43222 Disney Castle is," Ryan said in an interview with LEGO fan media. "Not all fans have the space or the budget for such a large set. 43263 Beauty and the Beast Castle offers a nice in between where you still get a very grand castle."

Grand it is, with room enough for the ballroom (complete with a spinning function for Beauty and the Beast to dance), a removable hallway that doubles as a stand for minifigures, a dining room with turning utensils for 'Be Our Guest', the iconic library, and the very top attic room where the cursed rose and Beast's mirror can be found.

It's not always the case where sets with such a sizable and detailed main build pay good attention to the minifigures but thankfully 43263 Beauty and the Beast Castle is one of them. 10 characters include, five of which are minifigures: Belle, the Beast (complete with an alternate human prince head), Gaston, LeFou, and Maurice. Lumière, Fifi, Cogsworth, Chip and Mrs. Potts also appear as buildable character in their furniture form – no human forms for them.

The character truly bring 43263 Beauty and the Beast Castle from good to great, bringing the castle to life. It's a complete enough line-up that you can recreate various iconic scenes from the movie, including the climactic final battle and showdown, thanks to the welcome addition of Gaston and LeFou.

When we had it for review ourselves, we had very little negative to say, only picking out the fact that the Beast has the same body whether he's a prince or cursed beast. That's not quite in keeping with the scale of the characters in the animated movie but honestly, the spectacle of the rest of the set is impressive enough that you won't be worrying about that for long.
