LEGO Technic returns to the Fast and the Furious franchise with 42210 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34), capturing every dramatic inch of the iconic car in its 1,410 pieces. But the real question is... can it earn a place of respect in the LEGO Fast and the Furious family?

The build is not for the faint of heart, packing in a lot of functions next to vital structural Technic bars. That leaves little room for flexibility or mistakes, and you'll quickly find out if even one element is not clicked into place just right.

The level of attention required gears 42210 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) towards experienced Technic builders – but the reward is an excellent pay-off. At this size, the LEGO Technic car isn't just an impressive engineering feat, but it also looks incredible on display, packing in movie-accurate details.

The NOS canisters on the seat is a neat touch to make sure you know whose car you're building. The dashboard is more detailed than some other Technic vehicles, clearly taking display into account as well as build experience and play.

While it's a shame that the paint job is almost entirely achieved through stickers, the final effect is undoubtedly impressive. Up close, there are plenty of functions to get stuck into, while from afar, you've got an instantly recognisable icon from the action franchise. One of the most fun features is the first-ever LEGO Technic 'drift' function.

We've put it in quotation marks there because it won't send your car into a tyre-burning spin. However, it does fairly accurately raise and lower the car, recreating the weight distribution that would send cars screeching around corners in some of the most heartbeat-raising manoeuvres from the franchise. The base of the car is virtually on the ground so that, when accompanied with a twist of the wheels, it's like the car has been frozen in an eternal drift.

Speaking of functions, none of your hard-built Technic features are left hidden at the end. The opening hood, trunk, and doors mean no technical elements are left hidden, so you can see at a glance how the suspension, steering, and moving pistons of the engine work. Considering the build is no walk in the park, that's a fitting reward for your hours of concentration.

While the tightness of the Technic elements makes for a tricky build, the result is a compact but sturdy car that makes every centimetre – and there are quite a few of them – count. While Technic is not often applauded for its accuracy, 42210 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) keeps the look of the real-life car, without sacrificing that unique style that the theme is known and loved for.

If you're looking for a more challenging Technic build to take your collection up a level, 42210 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) is an excellent choice, without requiring such a steep level of investment as, say, the new LEGO Technic Formula 1 cars 42206 Oracle Red Bull Racing RB20 and 42207 Ferrari SF-24, or 42172 McLaren P1. It looks and feels worth every penny – and every sore thumb from all those Technic pins.

Our honest opinion: An in-depth build with a big payoff, 42210 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) is worth shelling out for, especially for Technic fans.
